The majority of the information on this site originated from Myrtle Hornsby Callan--teacher, historian, and beloved cousin to all in the Hornsby Bend Family.

Myrtle was born on June 7, 1902, and is presently the oldest living member of the Hornsby Bend Family. She taught Texas History at the Texas State School for the Hearing Impaired for three decades, along with three other Hornsby women--Exa, Leah, and Alta.

She married Joseph Patrick Callan on October 8, 1952, and their loving relationship lasted until he passed away on March 6, 1962.

Many of the family have been fortunate enough to sit at Myrtle's knee while she patiently taught us the family history by thumbing through her carefully kept books. She has the unusual gift of being able to breathe life into our adventurous forebears who setted in the Republic of Texas and those who came after. Myrtle has been an active member of the Reuben Hornsby Chapter of the Republic of Texas since 1922.
