[I,] Reuben Hornsby, a native of the United States of the North and one of the colonists under the colonization contract of the empresario, Citizen Stephen F. Austin, dated November 20, 1827, [appear] before you with the greatest respect and say, that my status is that of a married man, [and] that with my family I

have emigrated to this country with the object of settling in it permanently and acquiring land for my support, to which end and with the prior approval of the said Honorable Empresario I have selected a

league of land situated on the left margin of the Colorado River, about eight leagues above the Bexar Road and carried on the plat as No. 17, for which reason I present myself to you that you may be pleased to admit me and put me in possession of said league, with the understanding that I offer to settle and cultivate it in conformity with the provisions of the law. Therefore, I ask that you may be pleased to do as I have requested, wherein I shall receive favor.

In view of the statement by the agent, Citizen Samuel M. Williams, in the foregoing report, I admit this petition in conformity with the law and order that the designated tract be surveyed by surveyor Samuel P. Browne so that the corresponding title may be issued to the interested party.

Citizen Miguel Arciniega, the commissioner appointed by the Supreme Government

of this State to distribute and give possession of land and issue titles to

the new colonists in the colonization enterprise of the empresario, Citizen Stephen F. Austin, outside the ten littoral leagues of the coast:

Whereas Reuben Hornsby has been received as a colonist in the

colonization enterprise contracted with the government of the State of

Coahuila and Texas on November 20, 1827, as appears on page 82 of this record book, and said Reuben Hornsby having proved that he is married and finding in

his person the requisites prescribed by the Colonization Law of the State of March 24, 1825; in conformity with said law and with the instructions governing me dated September 4, 1827, and the additional article dated April 25, 1830, and in the name of the State, I concede to, confer upon and put said Reuben Hornsby in real and personal possession of one league of land, which land has been

surveyed by surveyor Samuel P. Browne, previously appointed for the purpose,

with the following situation and boundaries: Situated on the left margin of the Colorado River about eight leagues above the new town of Bastrop and shown as

No. 11 on the survey plat; and from a post set on the margin of the river 10 varas distant from a hackberry bearing north 410 east and 12 varas from another [hackberry] bearing south 50 east, a line was run north 300 east 10,840 varas, where set a post, from which a post oak marked + bears south 15 1/20 east 85 varas distant and another bears south 20 west 82 varas distant. Thence north

600 west 2,500 varas, where another post was set for the northern corner, from which an elm bears north 180 east 48 varas distant and another elm bears south 110 east 60 varas distant, both marked +. Thence south 300 west 5,450 varas to the river, where a post was set for the upper corner, 6 varas distant from an

elm bearing north 50 east and 9 varas from another bearing south 810 east, both marked +. Thence following the river downward to the place of beginning, and it comprises one league of land in area. Said tract belongs to the class of arable land in four twenty-fifth parts and to that of pasture land in twenty-one

twenty-fifth parts, which serves as classification for the pri~e he shall pay the State according to Article 22 of said law under the penalties therein established; he being notified that within one year he shall construct permanent landmarks at each corner of the tract and that he shall settle and cultivate it in conformity with the provisions of the law.

Therefore, exercising the authority vested in me by the said law and the consequent instructions, I issue the present instrument and order a testimonio taken from it and delivered to the interested party in order that he may possess and enjoy the tract, he, his children, heirs, and successors, or whoever from him or from them shall have cause or right. Given in the town of San Felipe de Austin on the 30th day of the month of October,

1832, which I sign with assisting witnesses according to the law.
